Can eating celery burn more calories?

Have you ever heard of the Zero Calorie Diet,

or the Negative Foods Diet ? I recently ran across an article detailing these diets and how negative calorie foods can help in weight loss. I don't recommend eating these foods alone, however, but making these foods a significant part of your diet can help to reduce calorie intake and boost your metabolism.

What are negative calorie foods?

Negative calorie foods are fresh fruits and vegetables that, when eaten, takes more energy to digest. For instance, celery is a negative calorie food. If you eat a few stalks of celery, the energy used to chew it is more than the calories it contains. It then has to go through the process of digestion, which takes even more energy. Thus, more calories are burned by eating celery than if you haven't eaten celery at all.

Healthy benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables:

We all know that these foods are good for us. They are packed with vitamins and minerals that our body needs to regenerate cells and boost the immune system to protect against illness. The high fiber content found in many of these foods help aid in the process of digestion and elimination.

How to get more zero calorie foods in your diet

  • Before each meal, eat a salad or your choice of the foods listed above. Eat enough that you can still have a small amount of dinner and a glass of water and be satisfied, not stuffed.

  • If you're hungry shortly after dinner, eat a -calorie fruit.

  • Have them for snacks

  • Eat them before going to bed if you're a late night muncher.

  • If you're a busy person, like myself, prepare and place them in sandwich bags for a quick grab on the go.

  • Cut them up and place in food storage containers for easy access during the day.

Lose inches not weight

These foods are a major part of my diet. I didn't realize that I was helping my body burn calories just by eating them. It's helpful and encouraging when you find out tidbits of information such as this.

You still need to include some fat, protein, and carbohydrates in your diet. It is not healthy to lose more than 2-3 pounds of body weight per week. In fact, you could be doing more harm than good.

You want to lose fat, not weight, exactly. Rapid fat loss is usually mostly water weight and muscle. Muscle burns fat, so you want to build lean muscle, and keep it. It also weighs more than fat, which is why the aim is not to lose body weight, but inches.
